Hella Rallye 4000 HID

G'Day from 'down-under'

I have an E70 diesel and am wondering if anybody has experience in putting driving/spot lights onto the car. My local dealer said it may be able to be done, but, but, but............. Apparently the car will bring up warnings if the wiring loom is spliced into.
My aim is to attach the lights onto the OEM grille guard.

Any advice?

Cheers

SO you want to put them on besides replacing fogs? If you mount a switch and connect to the battery via a relay you will get no such warnings..you will only get a warning if you try and use any of the base harness....but this is fixed with resistors or a canceller quite easily...

Very clever - just need to be sure to turn them off!! I also thought using the fog light wiring could also solve the problem. I was speaking to the service rep. today, and his other concern was that the factory grille guard would not be sturdy enough(?!?)........

Cheers

I mounted a set of small LED lights on the front end and wired them directly to the positive battery post on the firewall (fused line). I grounded them in the engine bay and then used a wireless remote switch so I did not have to run any wires through the firewall. Came out nice.

The lights are mounted on top of the license plate frame. This was taken right after I hit a deer and the car hasn't been repaired yet, but you get the idea. They're not too bad - give a nice unfocused blue/white light.

You could if you wanted run a split harness from the existing fog H11 plug to a relay to the fogs so that the extra fogs trigger when you turn on the standard fogs.. this is a simple solution that most HID kits rely on .. i.e the vehicle harness provides the trip to the relay to switch the volatge to the fogs from the battery. Using a correct harness the mod is plug and play with no cutting wires on the vehicle harness.
