Anyone spray paint 3.0 black grill to silver color?

Hi,

I found this from tips and tricks. Has anyone done it on their E70 3.0? iIf you did it. Does the paint ever come off by itself? Do you have to prime it first? I was thinking to buy the 4.8i silver grill at the begining but costs $200 for both. I would do the spray paint if it achieves the same result (Silver look and last long).

Thanks.

If your going to paint it, scuff it up first with some sand paper, like 400 grit, prime it, then wait about 45 mins, and then apply the base coat.

After the base coat settles, follow up with some clear if you want additional shine and protection.

Nope, mine is an Euro 3.0d which originally came with black center grille and black mesh grille. I hated the looks so I did both and honestly you cant tell the difference.

Oh! Did you prime or prep it before you spray paint it like other member?Sounds like would be a lot of work if need to prime it and sanded it first. Or you just spray paint over the top of black color grille with few layers in between? Did you use regular auto silver spray can from auto shop?

Thanks.

Can you buy this from BMW or its it only available from an after-market retailer? The painted option looks very nice, but I'd prefer to have the confidence the finish will last longer.
