Is expecting dealer invoice price unreasonable?
I'm in the market to buy (not lease) a 2009 X5 3.0. With dealers likely hurting from the economy, and the Loyalty rebate and rebate from BMW CCA, the timing seems good.
If NADA is correct, the invoice on the X5 I want is approximately $5000 below MSRP. Has anyone had success in getting dealers to sell them an X5 at or near invoice? |

I purchased my diesel for $1K over invoice back in Jan. I ordered my car. I would think you could get close to invoice... Shop around... I went to three dealers...

$500 over invoice is definitely do-able.

I paid just about 5K under list for mine very recently. Listed for almost $65K and I paid $60K. I actually thought I could do better but the dealers in my area seem to be very busy still (baltimore/washington corridor). Every time went to look, they were in fact busy and seemed to be delivering a car.
Any chance Craig and I can talk you into a diesel? Especially since you are buying it. Not much more expensive and I am positive you will get all the money back that you pay extra for the diesel if/when you sell it. All diesel vehicles these days hold a resale value that makes up for the higher cost of the diesel. And, you get the benefit of higher mileage and better performance to boot. If you haven't driven one of the new ones, do yourself the benefit of the doubt and try it. My wife told me that she would never, ever drive a diesel. When she first heard mine, she had no idea that it was a diesel. Most people will honestly never tell the difference by the sound. But they may if they get a chance to drive it! Especially on a heavy vehicle like this. It makes lots of power right off the bat down low. If you happen to do much city type or stop and go driving, you will really feel the improvement. Off my diesel soapbox now! |

My SA told me it was $1700 for any current BMW owner - no requirement to have a loan or lease thru BMWFS. He says it expires at the end of June.

That's funny because I've had 2 sales guys from 2 different dealers tell me it's only if you are currently in a loan or lease thru BMW or if it's been within the last 6 months.
