The Cayenne GTS is, from what I've read, way more sporty than the 4.8. And the GTS has 405hp.

Not in the U.S.

If you're outside the U.S., you can get the true M sport suspension on an X5. We cannot specify that here. You can also get a diesel M sport in most markets. That is a very cool combination, since the V8 is bad!!!!! with gas mileage - 16mpg on the highway.

As for the engine and performance, here it is the same. Sometimes an msport package will modify the gear ratios or torque converter to improve performance, but I don't believe this was done with the X5.

Regards,
DRP

It's a higher top speed. It doesn't make the car quicker... just faster.

I have the feeling some of you have mixed up X5Msport package with X5M or am I wrong ???
X5Msport package is just the looks (front, rear painted bumper and 4 fenders and different 20" wheels)... no further engine modification ...correct me if am wrong...

X5M should be a totally different car... including engine, suspension, brakes, transmition.... we are talking about different power.....

People want to believe that the M sport packages are cosmetic only but I just don't think that's true (with some exceptions). My 740i sport had M sport suspension and it was literally a different car than a 740i. The 550i sport was transformed when it went from BMW sport package to M sport package with the LCI update in 2007 (which is only this year being advertised as an M sport suspension).

M sport, as the letter implies, is specified by GHMB Motorsport division. The springs, shocks, bushings, bump stops etc... They are a seperate company with their own test track. From a performance point of view is goes BMW then BMW sport pack, then M sport pack then M car. Again there are exceptions, but I'm surprised how many people think M sport is just for show. If that was the case I'd have bought an M sport X5 for my wife. I didn't because I don't want the baby riding around on stiffer shocks and springs etc...????
Why not test drive an M x5 and let us know what's the different between the two as you said you drive the cayenne 2 to 3 times right?

I think he is thinking that if the X5 goes faster, it must have some type of extra performance. In reality, BMW only raised the top speed limiter.
