Power outlet in trunk

Is it possible to keep the power outlet in the trunk on when the vehicle is off?

I use it to keep some drinks cool in an electric ice box that goes in the trunk and currently when I switch the car off it stops working!

Thanks

You would have to rewire it to an always-hot line.

ALL of our previous E53 X5's 12V plugs were hot all the time. We kept a 12V cooler in our 2001 X5 continuously since 2002 (i.e. 8+yrs) and were NEVER left "in a lurch" because of battery problems. Obviously we did not leave it plugged in 24/7. But we did use the cooler regularly (e.g. 2-3 times a week) during shopping trips (50 mi one way), road trips, day trips to state parks etc. Since we had a gray interior, the Igloo looked so 'built in' that many people asked if it was BMW optional equipment

FWIW We were prudent and would unplug it if we expected to be away from the X5 for longer than a hour or so. But we were not paranoid about it.

This morning my wife went to go to work and when she tried to start the X, well...it did'nt. Turns out the cooler in the trunk was plugged in and running all night. So I guess we have an X that has "hot-all-the-time" plugs in the trunk.

On a side note, I thought I read somewhere here that all the plugs in an X will shut down after 2 or 3 hours via the OBC that measures voltage drain????
