Considering sapphire black...am I crazy?

I have an opportunity to buy a Black Sapphire X5 or Titanium Silver X5. Silver is a nice and safe choice, but my wife loves the Black and it will be her primary car. I've always sworn never to buy a black car, but the Black Sapphire, given that it is metallic will probably show less swirl marks. I plan to keep the car at least 6 yrs...any feedback on the longevity of the Black Sapphire? Am I crazy to consider this?

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. My last few cars have been some sort of silver or grey. I ended up with Black Sapphire for my E70. I like how the black trim blends with everything else. It's a little more challenging to keep it clean compared to my last few cars, but man when it's clean it's a sick looking truck!

I swore off black vehicles before I purchased my X in Sapphire Black - I owned a few and at the time it was really important to me to have a spotless car. Black and spotless is difficult to keep for very long. Can't comment on longevity but as one married guy to another, it doesn't matter what color I like as long as my wife is happy with the color of HER vehicle. Take it for what it's worth - good luck.

Black is a nice color for a large car like the X.

Black Sapphire because: my .3cents
1. your wife loves the Black and it will be her primary car. Gotta keep the wife happy..you know the drill
2. The E70 is a car you wanna show and be proud of. Silver is a bit too neutral for me. You gotta bring out all its beauty.
3. Its mettallic and that bad to maintain plus the reward is its beauty especially if your gonna keep it for awhile.

Ive had only 1 black car before my X and swore never to buy a black car again. Now i have no regrets whatsover on my BSM

Silver is nice and I opted for it over black. Easier to keep clean, shows off the body lines!
All personal choice and you really can't go wrong.

If you're crazy enough to consider cleaning it so often.. go for it. I tend to wash once a week or so on a white because of the exhaust dripping onto the rear aero kit and that's already a chore. If I'm going to break out the solvent, may as well spend another 30 mins to do the rest of the car right?

I love the color, it looks black most of the time .. at night you almost cant tell its
sapphire black. it does help with "swirls" too.. my car is almost six years old now and with some love it looks brand new... i get asked often about it for some reason..

i say go for it ..normal black looks 10x worse in time i think..

of course i didnt have the choice of "normal" black with mine but now im glad i didnt..
my x5 m will be black sapphire as well

The BMW color that is "normal" black is Jet Black. I've had it on my e53 for 8.5 years now and it still looks great. Jet Black is a deep mirror finish where Sapphire is metallic flakes more of a milky finish. There is no black color out there that is "easier to care for" than another you just have to be careful and make sure you handwash, use good microfiber towels, etc.

If you have to get black and it's for the wife get the Sapphire as it's the "lazy's man black" and you don't have to worry as much. I don't know why the big fuss over black--I wash it once a week--big deal. Go to the dealer and have them put 2 cars together with the colors and see which one she likes.

I just ordered my new X5 two weeks ago...and chose Black Sapphire.
