Question 2007 vs 2008

So, uhm yeah I wrecked my '03 E53 4.4... (long story; I'll post about it later) and now I'm in the market for an E70 (finally). My biggest hurdle is trying to decide between an '07 or an '08. What's holding me at bay is some of the constant chatter about 1st year issues of the new body style and vehicle options that didn't arise until 2008. Can someone really give me the skinny on issues that they have/had with their 2007 (which made them wish they bout an '08) and can someone list the options available on an '08 that aren't available on the '07 (like '08 DVD changer)?

Thanks a bunch!

007

(and as a side note, I'll try to go the CPO route on either to get the extended warranty til 100K miles. The '09 is not even an option.)

08 has auto tailgate option- main reason why I waited.

Think most issues have been addressed by BMW (ie: via software updates, etc). I don't think there is too much difference.

But seriously consider 2010 model if you can possibly wait (yeah. car's wrecked and all, maybe you have other cars in the house that you can drive first). Newer iDrive will definitely make it better than 07-09 models.

depending upon date of production:
HD Radio

Given that BMW's are made ala carte, your concern should be on finding a car with the options you want rather than 07 v. 08. Obviously, the length of the CPO will be based on when your car was originally placed in service.

There are some good threads that discuss options.

My 07 4.8 CPO came with every option available at the time of manufacture. The option I like most is the comfort seats. (fyi..it is rare to find these on a sport package b/c you get no credit for the sport seats) Items like HUD, sport package, rear entertainment, navigation, rear climate, etc are all useful at times, but those comfort seats are great day-to-day!

The vehicle is great except for crappy mpg and rear camera. Idrive could be better, but not bad by any measure.

anyone know how to switch between the rear camera image and the rear camera sensors? When I use one key it shows the rear camera images (picture), but when I use the other key it shows just the sensors.

If you are financing you might be better off getting a brand new one vs. buying an '08 CPO. From what I've seen most loaded CPO '08 4.8s are going for about $55K. If you are going to pay 6% interest on used you might as well do the 2.9% offer on new and they are going for close to invoice so your payments would be close. BTW--you are in Houston--I was at BMW of Dallas the other day and they have an '08 silver 4.8 with Sport/Tech/Prem/20s with 14K for $53K. The sales guy said it's not a CPO but you can add the coverage for a few thousand. The financing on it is 2.9%--it was a loaner at the dealer and BMW offers low rates for those. It's in perfect shape I looked at it.

There are iDrive settings for PDC and BUC. You can have both on your iDrive screen at the same time, or one or the other. One of your keys just isn't set the same as the other.

... Hence the reason for my post. Im trying to find out which options didn't come with the '07's that did with the '08. From there, I can decide if I'm missing something that I may want vs. being stuck with a vehicle that doesn't even have the capabilities...

So Far:

'07 doesn't have:

HD Radio (depending on prod date)
Auto Tailgate
