iDrive 4.0 CIC in 2010 X5

Hey all - I posted this on Bimmerfest too. Everyone's excited about 2010 X5 which is supposed to have the new iDrive. TWO questions:

1. Do we know for a fact the new system will be in ALL 2010 X5's, including the first run off the line in Sept/Oct? I've been looking for solid confirmation that this is a fact (hopefully something better than "my CA/SA said..."). Any info appreciated -

2. Has anyone tried both the current edition and the new edition? Hard drive/ONE optical device benefits aside, is it really difficult to use the current system? Is the new one really better than sliced bread, etc?

Thanks-

The new one is better with Navigation. I've used both and don't find the old one that hard to use. I don't have the tech package on my 2009 X5.

Thanks - I did order an '09 with Tech. Does that mean it will be substantially more difficult than the new model? I am definitely not computer/tech averse and don't mind an extra click or two-

I undestand that the new 7 series already has the new iDrive, and other models do as well (e.g., some 3 series), but is the new idDrive for 2010 the same iDrive as in the 7 series? I seem to recall some folks suggesting there will be a difference.

The new idrive is in the 2010 E60's already. I used it when I test drove one as I was debating to stick with the E60. Obviously being on here I changed to the E70.

I'll be honest with you the new idrive is a very nice system. The initial boot up is much better than our current idrives. The lag between menus is almost non-existent and the screens are very nice.

If I wasn't in the situation where I really needed to trade my E60 right away I would have waited for the 2010 E70.

2010 will have the new iDrive system and controller. Both X5 and X6. New one is easier to input address etc.
