Running Board Overhang Same or More than stock black trim?

Second guessing my initial pass on the running board option with just ordered 35d. I passed because I hit my calf getting out of the non-running board demo at the dealer everytime.

I have to wear suits to work and get in and out a few times per day and don't need to worry about dirt or mud on the back of my suitpants.

Realizing I like the optional running board look eventhough they would not be functional for me at 6'4" and if I decide later to put it on it will be a grand more at that time with install.

Anyother pro's or con's you can add beyond if the optional running boards jut further out from the side of the car and cause worse leg bumping?

Hey,

I bought mine off the lot. The car had the RB already installed and was not happy about it at first. After getting in and out of a 5 w/o them it was not that big an improvement. You hit the RB or the trim getting out. If you plan on putting anything on the roof they are a nice advantage. They look sweet on my white x5 too Glad they were on the car.

I have them, also wear suit to work, and have no problems with getting my pants dirty You will get used to them very fast. You are taller than me, you should have even less issues (longer legs).

One thing to note - without RBs, it is hard to reach roof for washing, putting things on rails, etc. I strongly recommend them !

Why use the running boards to reach the roof when you can step up even higher on the door sill with the doors open. I'm 6'3" so I guess it's easy for me no matter what but that's what I do to clean the roof.

You do get used to them. I don't think there is a big difference between the overhangs. The running boards on the E53s came out much further than the stock black trim. The E70 running boards are not as bad.

I have RB on my '08. When I ordered the 2010, I did not order the RB. However, while waiting for the SA I got in and out of a RB equipped unit on the show room floor as well as a non RB unit. I came to the conclusion that your pants are going to touch something either way. I changed my order and got the RB because it's worth the look.

I've never used the running boards or roof racks. Some here have taken off their roof racks and like the cleaner look. If you're not going to use them, it's all a matter of personal taste.

I had a lunatic woman storm out of her parked car next to me one day when I had my E70 and I nearly died the noise was so loud as her door it off me. I thought my E70 would have a huge dent, when I got out there wasn't a mark, then I realised her door had hit off my RB.

for that one incident, highly recommended.
