No sound from iPod or iPhone via USB

Hello all,
picked up new 2010 3.0 last week and just got around to trying the iPod/iPhone integration.

There are 2 issues; 1 is applicable for everyone who orders the smartphone integration, the other may just be a problem on my end.

1) there are 2 different snap-in adapters for the iPhone 3G. There is one that does NOT allow access to the music on the iPhone (PN: 84 21 2 158 682) and there is one that DOES allow access to the music (PN: 84 21 2 158 683). Make sure your Client Advisor order the proper part because ours didn't and I am now having them re-order the right part.

2) I can not get any audio to play from the iPhone (or an iPod) connected via USB in the armrest. The idrive can see the iPod/iPhone and can select songs or playlists and even shows the timer going as the song plays but no audio comes out.

The radio and satellite radio work fine but I can not figure out why I wouldn't be able to get audio out of the device when the USB appears to be sending the contents of the iPod/iPhone to the idrive and granting it full access to move between playlists, etc.

I have tried songs that are protected (purchaed on iTunes) and those that have been ripped from my own collection (think they are in MP3 format).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone else run across this issue of the audio working fine except via the USB connected devices?

Oh, and for what it is worth, I also plugged my iPhone headset Jack into the aux plug and that didn't work either.

I'm at a loss and any help/ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Problem solved.

It was user error (shocking)

Apparently you must have the aux cable (looks like a headphone Jack) AND the USB cable plugged into their appropriate ports in the armrest at the same time. Then you connect the bottom of the iPod to the end of the iPod cable coming out of the USB port (30 pin connector). Once you do this then the iPod's sound will play.

I feel stupid (nothing new) but hopefully my stupidity will help others who do not pay attention to their CA when the CA is explaining how the car works! Ha.
