Anyone hardwired their Valentine One to your X5?

I have a Valentine One radar detector and have it hardwired to my 335i coupe. I'd like to do the same for my X5. The 335i has the fuse box located just behind the glove box, so installation of the wires and connection to an open fuse was pretty simple.

Is there a fuse box for the X5 under or behind the front dash? I think I saw a fuse box located behind a panel on the left side of the cargo area - next to the stereo amp. If that's the only fuse box, I probably won't bother with hardwiring. I don't think i want to run cable that far from the dash.

Also, has anyone seen a DIY on hardwiring a Valentine One to an E70? This is a DIY post I followed for my 335i: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17506 (start at post #9).

Thanks for any help.

Try doing a search on "valentine". Many hardwired V1's have been done...

I tried the search before I started this thread. There isn't a thread for an E70 install, only E53's or X3s.

You need to use the tap wire tool that comes with the Valentine 1 to top into the 12v line that runs above the reading lights in the middle. I think its a blue wire u need to tap into.

This is a nice guide.

This shows which wire to tap.

This is another guide to which wire to tap. The pictures are gone, but you can use the pictures from the other threads as a guide.

These were all found in the E70 section, using E70's as an example.

Great info and pics...........I noticed on the bottom of the page an ad by Blendmount............yet when yo uvisit their site, it indicates that there isn't a fit for the any BMW.

Can you comment on why it won't work ? (awaiting delivery of 2010 X5)
