I've never had that show up on the screen but a few times the camera didn't show anything at all, just a black screen in the middle of the day after shifting to reverse. It is ok again the next time I use the car. So see if it goes away on its own the next time.

Happened to me a while back. If you did search, few of early builds of E70 had the same problem.

The dealer replaced and reprogrammed the new camera. It's all under the warranty.

thanks guys, if in 1-2 days the camera doesn`t recover by its own, i will go to the dealer and replace it under warranty. I wonder if I could order the new camera that comes with the 2010 X5s. I heard it has better resolution

I've never had that kind of issue ("black screen") with my backup camera. You may want to have to looked at (or replaced) when you next go into the dealership. Take a picture of it occurring on more than one occasion so that you have some proof.

You know this only started happening after a firmware flash (whichever one they gave out around April '08). I'm hoping software glitches like this go away with new firmware... but yes I need to keep a running tab on small issues for the dealer to fix just before my warranty ends. My other small problem right now is the driver's door lock makes a weird mechanical sound when popping up/down... not sure anything can even be done.

The dealer can still look up the error code though your camera is working properly right now. I still suggest you bring it to the dealer for them to pull down the error code.
