Anyone painted black their running boards ?

Has anyone with a black X and running boards painted black the silver part of the boards which we step on ???? I was wondering if it would look nicer and match better with the rest of the body color..

They will scratch and mark too easily I'd suggest...

The aluminum portion should not be painted since it is very susceptible to scratches and chipping. If you want to color match, its better to remove the aluminum running board and replace it with the normal side steps. If you are painting the whole plastic trim, then I would suggest you paint only the black plastic portion.

My gripe with my aluminum steps is that they get these annoying water spots on them. I wipe them down after a wash, but they seem to be coming back. It almost looks like lime build up. It's driving me nuts.

Just a thought you could try a product called Bar Keepers Friend. You can find it at the grocery store with the cleaning products. It is a very very fine cleanser/powder, I use it in the bathroom to take the water spots off of everything, never a scratch it works great.
