Finally received '10 35d - Malfunction already

So my car was completed October 7th, and it finally came in today. My dealer prepped the car and I took delivery as they were closing. It's a beautiful car, I love it. I almost got vermillion red, but changed last second to space gray. I'm sure the red is a great color, but I really like the gray.

So anyways, I'm 2 miles away from the dealer and I get a malfunction. There is a red battery signal on the dash in the upper lcd display, and iDrive says CHARGING MALFUNCTION. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to pick up my floor mats (I changed my mind on which ones I wanted and Parts was already closed). I'll have them take a look. The thing is the malfunction went away after a few miles. So I wonder what they might be able to do. Maybe I should first hope that the car starts in the morning.

I'll also take some pics tomorrow, stay tuned.

Probably just cobwebs that you blew away when you drove home... I get occassional glitches in the system but nothing too serious and generally they never appear again...particularly with new i-drive you'll need to keep on top of new SIBs dealing with software releases that fix minor glitches that appear with certain combinations of settings and events....

Congrats on the new 35d.

Sounds like BMW NA, the delivery trucker and your dealer need to get their "unfavorable driver" reports; and quit driving those short trips

If I were a worrying man, I'd say the notorious E70 electrical/charging design/implementation flaw is still unresolved in the 2010 models. Your X5 was built nearly a month ago. I'll bet that it has too few miles on the ticker to keep your battery charged

p.s. I'd demand to have a copy of the "unfavorable driver" report, so that I could have it framed. After all, there probably aren't many X5 drivers that can prove that their X5 ratted on them after only 2 miles

A few round-trips to the grocery store and hopefully everything is rockin'!

Congrats!

Late update: the malfunction went away and hasn't come back. The car starts fine and we love it. We re out and about and I'm posting from my phone. Pics maybe tomorrow (with a new car and a new baby boy I don't have a ton of computer time).

You might have loose battery connections/terminals... Some vibration will get them undone again later on... Have them look at it, it might have registered a code.

The battery is under the trunk's floor, if you know how to handle a philips screwdriver, it is an easy DIY to check and re-tighten.
