Anyone have experience with ESS Tuning? They apparently have a flash for the 3.5d that produces 330hp and 650tq for $1,295.

My understanding is that's not for the US X5d. The US X5d has a newer ECU than what had been selling in Europe, and what all the ECU flash products are based on.

I don't think I'd spend $1,300 to void my warranty. Besides, perforamance is just fine as stock.

There is always a caveat with performance parts and people who do performance mods on their cars, usually do not care much about warranty. Although I am not supporting performance ECU upgrades, but I think it would definitely be really cool to have more many horses under the hood.

I'm intrigued by the comment about the BT Scanner. If that's true, I can simply remove a piggy back and also clear the codes before any trip to the dealer. Seems like a cheaper alternative to Dinan and opens the possibility even of extended warranty.

Can others confirm this can erase any codes?

BTW, what's the cost of a BT Scanner and where do I get them?

I have a BT scanner, they are real and they do work. Get it here: JUICE BOX 135 335i 535i PERFORMANCE TUNER
The guy who runs the company, Terry, is great to work with (excellent customer service and quick to respond).

Terry actually has a 2010 X5d on order. He will soon start working on a tune for it!

If I were to buy a tune for my X5d, I would wait for Terry's product. I had a JB+ for my 335xi and it was amazing.

One thing to consider is does the mod monitor your exhaust gas temps. If it doesn't, then you better have a way to monitor them or they can get out of hand real quick.

Before I took my foot off of the throttle, I saw brief moments of 1500 deg F on my 1996 Ford F350 diesel truck with one tune I had. Bad things start to happen around 1350-ish if you hold those temps for any length of time.

Ask your tuner what the EGTs are at full throttle, full load for their tune. If they don't know or won't tell you, run away. Make sure you know if the temps were taken in front of the turbo or behind the turbo. Makes a huge difference.
