For the RFTs, at least you have the Michelins. Don't get me started on the Bridgestones! I had a MDX a couple of years ago and the X5 feels closer to the road and part of that is more noise than the MDX regardless of the tire. That said, I find in general that good normal tires are quieter than run flats.

You can find zillions of threads around the net about run flats. So I won't get that discussion going again!

Enjoy the new X5!
Thanks for the reply bigx5er,
Also, I would never buy the tire/rim thing - Any particular reason for this?
Yes I do have 45K miles/45 months time to go for extended warranty
So do you confirm that MDX/Regular Michelin tires has less road noise than X5d/Michelin RFT

Re: Road noise

Congrats! I also have saddle brown great choice I took delivery just before thanksgiving and mine came with the Michelins too. The specs are below. I don't have any complaints about road noise. I would drive the car as much as I could before your Saturday call. For one thing 150 miles might not be sufficient to consider the tires to be in optimum condition.

Michelin Latitude Tour HP 107 H 255/50 R19 M + S
Tread wear 400
Temperature A

Thanks Armand;690480,
In general do regular tires have less road noise than RFT?

My opinion is yes -- but -- it depends on the tire. Take the Goodyear Triple Tread as an example. Awesome tire but can be very noisy.

Head over to tirerack.com and research the various tires. You will se reviews on noise and the such.

My Bridgestone RFTs weren't that noisy until 12K or so. Sadly we had them on a 3 series also and the same noise issue.

But as I noted, some regular tires can be very noisy also.

Hi BMW_F1,

I am in the same boat/train as you, my car finished production on 12/4, the phone says it is on its way to VPC, but website said it's already there. I talked to my dealer and he said web site is wrong, my car is sceduled to arrive at VPC on the 25th. I am curiouse if you've talked to your dealer, and what kind of information is he giving you. I really hoped to have the car before Christmas but now I am thinking before new year.

The website and phone are pretty hosed. I had been following my X5 and the phone/website both showed it completing on Dec 10.

Well, my dealer called on Dec 12 (Sat) and said the car had just arrived (in Minnesota). So that probably puts the website/phone system off by a week or so.

All fine by me. Hope to have the car Tuesday or Wednesday once the prep is done.

As bigX5er said, it depends on the tire. More expensive and better brands seem to fair better. Ask a tire shop or call the service department of your BMW dealer they will be able to tell you what to expect. I have used Michelin non RFTs for years (on other cars). No road noise issues. One time I had to buy Bridgestone, it got so noisy after about 10K that I had to take the car to the dealer and they confirmed it was tire noise. On the other hand the bridgestone has lasted considerably longer

I got my 2010 X5d yesterday. I placed order on November 8, went into production on Dec 5 (according to 800#) and my dealer got it yesterday.
It is moanco blue metallic with black perforated Nevada. Tech. pack, premium pack, premium sound, rear seat comfort, support package, CA, Sirius, etc. As I picked it up last night, did not have chance to enjoy ride. I will post some pictures.
