I just finished the complete installation of the tow package on my '08 X5. It was well worth doing the job myself and not having to pay the dealer.
I installed a hitch from Hidden Hitch. Requires only that you trim the bottom of the bumber about half an inch(you can't see it from the back, only if you lay under the car). The downside to the hitch from Hidden Hitch is that it did not come with the trailer plug mounting plate. So i took some metal and made one, and welded it to the back of the hitch. You'll need the trailer harness pt# 71 60 2 156 526 and if you need a brake controller for the trailer its pt# 82 11 0 420 082. I just installed both and it was pretty straight foward. I did have to take the vehicle to the dealer to have them program the trailer accessory. If you miss this step your trailer plug wont put out any power to the trailer. It cost me 180$ to have the programming done. All the parts above came with very well written directions and installation was seemless. I will post pictures in my profile soon of the finished project. feel free to pm for more info. |
