X5d Helps Keep BMW Sales up for November

BimmerFile Archive BMWNA Sales Up 3.2% for November

Quote:
Official Release: Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 3.2 percent in November for a total of 15,708 vehicles compared to 15,217 vehicles reported in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, BMW brand sales were down 23.7 percent to 176,374 vehicles compared to 231,053 vehicles sold in the same period of 2008.

“November gave us some reason for optimism as it’s the second time in the last three months we showed a gain compared to the same month last year,” said Jim O’Donnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC. “Overall, we believe that the premium segment is on its way back even though in the early part of 2010, it will be a bit bumpy and uneven. Our cause will be aided with the introduction of more new BMW models next year and just as we saw last month, continued solid performances from our X5 and X5 Advanced Diesel vehicles.”

The BMW X5 Advanced Diesel is the most forward ordered vehicle of BMW’s model range and accounted for one quarter of all X5 sales in November.

In November, sales of BMW’s Certified Pre-Owned vehicles increased 7.9 percent to 8,307 CPO vehicles versus 7,700 vehicles reported a year ago. Year-to-date, CPO sales were up 11.3 percent to 103,289 over the 92,781 reported in the same period of 2008.

The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported November sales of 18,272 vehicles, a decrease of 7.5 percent from the 19,762 vehicles sold in the same month of 2008. The BMW Group also reported a year-to-date sales volume of 218,110 vehicles, down 22.5 percent compared to 281,564 vehicles sold in the first 11 months of last year.

I'd be interested in a breakdown of 35d vs 30i vs 48i vs 30d... seems hardly anyone is buying the latter 3 anymore going by what pops up around here. They're saying the 35d is only a quarter of all X5 sales... leaving 3 other models to fight out 75%... but they also say it's the most ordered of any BMW - does that even make sense? All anybody introduces is their new diesel... weird.

There are only 3 models for the US - 30i, 35d, and 48i. This leaves the 30i and 48i to fight over the 75%. On top of the 35d having 25%, I would guess that the 30i has 60%, leaving 15% for the 48i.
EDIT: Sales rose 41% for the X5 compared to last November.

Ahh US sales only, got it... but still don't understand how it's the most ordered BMW if it's only 25%, of just the X5s at that.

The most "forward ordered" BMW, which I assume means a specific Priority 1 order placed by the purchasing customer, as opposed to a dealer ordering it for inventory.

As for the diesel sales, they were no doubt increased by the $4,500 Eco Credit. It will be interesting to see what happens in subsequent months.

That would make sense. This forum is a biased sample of car buyers. I'd say most soccer moms driving their kids around don't even know whats under their hood. They care more about the color and thats its not a minivan. Every contributor to this site LOVES THEIR X5.Its only natural that the first adopters of the diesel are all here, and also speed junkies write about their 4.8's. But we should be thankful to all the indiscriminate 3.0 buyers who help keep the price for X5 family reasonable.
