My Bad Luck - Exhaust Fluid Warning at 1800 miles

Just an hour ago, driving in 30 degree tempatures, I received the exhaust Fluid Warnning that I only had 993 miles until my 2010 35d would not start. I only have 1800 miles on the vehicle, and I picked it up on November 14. Temperatures here have been in the 40's and 30's for the last week or two (colder at night). Vehicle is garaged in day and at night.

So is this what we can expect all winter? A trip every 4 weeks to our service department, tell it is not so. What a pain.
Did everyone with the 2009's experience this last winter?

Mine went on the other night with 2400 miles. It's been in the teens and 20's for the past 3 days, so I'm not sure what's up. I garage the car in 45 degree comfort, but I don't know why we're using more DEF than is supposed to go to the first oil drain. I'll be calling the dealership this week to see what they think. I picked mine up at PCD, so I don't know if they put the full amount into tank before delivery.

No, I have never seen this message and I've had mine almost a year. Something isn't right, take it to the dealer. I have the same temps here, and I don't have any problems. Either you have a leak, or it wasn't filled at the factory. What dealer did you purchase at? I purchased mine at Plaza, and their service dept sucks! I won't go back to Plaza for anything...

Definitely, have heard that about Plaza. I purchased mine out of town, so I am headed to Autohaus most likely. This is not making me very happy, having to return to a dealer every 1800 miles would be a major inconvenience. So much so that I wonder about my decision. Let's see what happens, I hope it was an error.
Our temps have not been outrageous yet this year, they will only get worse in the next few weeks. So if the smaller heated reservior is depleting then this may continue. Not happy.

Mine did it to...temps in the 40s, rarely freezing here. 1500 miles on it.

But only once, never to return (or not yet)

FWIW there have been two reports of 35ds that have had (or are having) one of the Exhaust Fluid tanks replaced due to failed sensors and/or leaks. One was the smaller active tank. The other the larger passive tank. Apparently the sensors are integral to the tanks and can't be replaced without replacing the whole tank - duh. OBTW these are very pricey parts.

If we keep this car past 45k miles (which I'm 90% sure we are), we will definitely be buying the extended warranty.

I also wouldn't own this vehicle without a warranty...

Let us know what they come up with. I was going to purchase mine at Autohaus, but they came up with a 300.00 get ready fee when I was ready to order mine. I haven't heard anything bad about their service.
I had never heard of a get ready fee before. I said, get ready for what
LOL!

I hope it's something minor...

mine came up once too, at about 1,000 miles. Didn't come back after next restart. Will be calling the dealer - they really should have a gauge on idrive so you can see how much fluid is in the tank.
