which extended warranty

My X just hit 40k miles and I haven't had any problems - knock on wood - but I am going to purchase an extended warranty. Any suggestions other than BMW?

What is your tolerance for risk?

BMW now sells 3 different warranties- Powertrain, Gold and Platinum. (the latter two have increasing coverage compared to the powertrain)

Personally I like the BMW backed plans. or maybe the EasyCare.

The 'plan' and 'policy;' is one thing, but the wild card is what it financial state of the company and what are their business practices.

Whatever you do, DO NOT rely on the plan summary or description of coverage to make your decision- read and understand the actual policy...

Oh, and all prices are negotiable...even from BMW.

I, and several other posters here, have had good luck with WarrantyDirect; not pumping that co., just good anecdotal experience with them.

Or, you can do the 2OP plan from BMW NA, a CPO-like coverage...

And, there are a few other aftermkt warranties that posters have had experience with: plug Extended Warranty into the Search Tab and
you will see pages of Threads on the topic.

I was researching aftermarket warranties for my X and started by seeing which ones my local BMW dealership offers. They are selling one from Chrysler. I think it is called the chrysler service contract. It came in 1-4 year plans with unlimited mileage. It covered basically everything you could think of. Just make sure you do a lot of research before you purchase any warranty. Dont buy it if its advertised on TV, newspapers or anything like that. Those companies tend to be less credible. Asking you dealership and service advisor could be a good start.

Plus, if you purchase most any warranty while factory warranty still exists on the car they wont do an inspection. This could work out in your benefit.

1. Beware when you buy third party warranties from ANY dealer... do not think that "this must be good, a BMW dealer is selling it"... these guys are all just car salesmen.

2. There is a new BMW plan just announced in the last few months. The old OOP or O2P plan is no more. The have a range from "vastly more than CPO" to "CPO-very lite".... check them out. Be aware that you MUST buy these by 45000 miles or 45 months.
