Need a morale boost-Tell me something you like about your E70
I'm on here quite a bit as I await the arrival of my wife's 3.0, which just got pushed back two weeks (after a two week production delay due to top-view camera supply issues), and I'm starting to get cold feet. I am reading a lot of complaints about reliability and quality, as well as lack of support from BMW USA in addressing these issues. My 07 Tahoe, which the x5 is to replace, has been flawless and looks/drives like new today with 40k miles.
I'm now thinking about cancelling delivery and switching to a CPO '07 E60 530 that just arrived at my local dealer. So, please give me some moral support and tell me good things about your cars! |

Stick it out. Don't cancel. You're going to be blown away going from a Tahoe to an X5. I had my '08 for two years without any major issues, I had a check engine light once which turned out to be a temperature sensor. I've had three X5s and I'm now in an X6. I've had minor annoyances, but never serious issues. The E70 was the most trouble free of all of them.
Good luck.

Remember, more people complain on here than people who don't and are happy with their X's.
My X, with the exception of 2 minor trips to the dealer, has been rock solid, as have many others on here. Relax, deep breaths

You will never enjoy your Tahoe as much as you will with the 70, trust me, I had a tahoe which was pretty much just a people hauler. I'm burning coupes in the freeway with my 70. 2 weeks of waiting is nothing compared to a few years of driving excellence.

Even with the few issues we have had (in shop now as a matter of fact - read my thread), we LOVE it!

I drive a few different cars because of varying necessities... most notably having to go to my dad's minivan when doing family stuff and needing to seat 4/5 adults and 2 toddlers... each time I go back to the E70 I am amazed at how stable and solid it feels on the road. There is no waddling about, no loose feeling on the highway, steering is precise and predictable... there has not been anything like it. My mom recently got a Merc C300 (in a nice white I chose for her I might add
) and while it feels quiet, it is still soft and "floaty"... not as planted on the ground. I honestly think Honda/Toyota does just about the same thing. About reliability - yes it has had electronic quirks - yesterday it wouldn't shift out of park (but a shutoff/on fixed it) - I think I'm going to go with an extended warranty so that I don't have to worry about anything for a long time.

If it's a choice between the E60 and E70, don't forget that the E60 is being replaced next year (photos all over). Further more, the E60 won't have the super cool new iDrive that will arrive in your new X5! For a tech guy like myself, that's enough reason to stick with the X5.
The X5 is really a comfortable car to drive (especially if your into SUV's) and very solid to drive. Great for families.

My cousin drove my X at Christmas and her only comment was "holy crap, that thing is a tank"
Coming from her, that's a compliment

I have only had my X5 3.5 D for a few weeks but it is great to drive. We switched from a Honda Odyssey Minivan to use this as our family car. Driving this car is a pleasure unlike the Honda which was pretty boring. My wife has an highlander Hybrid which is like driving a refrigerator. I hate it. I also drove the Tahoe and the Cayenne which could not even come close to comparing to the X5. I couldnt believe what a POS the Cayenne was. Anyway I have a 2007 Z4 that has had no problems at all that was built at the same plant. I am hopeful the X5 is at least decent with reliability. I dont expect it to be as reliable as a Japanese car but it its sooooooo much better to drive that I can deal with some extra repairs.
