Front wheel don't lock in park

I noticed something the other day, we are having fairly snowy and icey conditions here in Ireland something which we rairly get, I was parking my car on the driveway way which was quit slippery and after engaging the park and handbrake the car started slipping on the drive when I took my foot off the brake as the front wheels we not locked!

Anyone else noticed this?

Thanks

The front wheels aren't supposed to lock. The rears will have been locked and simply been sliding on ice on your drive whilst your fronts will have been rotating as it slid.

I thought that when you put your gearbox into 'P' it locked the gearbox and hence in a 4wd would lock the 4 wheels

The xDrive system is inherently a rear-wheel drive system with front-drive capability. If the system ever fails or when the vehicle is off, only the rear-wheels are engaged. (Learned this when changing wheels for the first time........the fronts roll freely whereas the rears do not)
