DVD player continously cycling
Got into X this an and heard noise like dvd changer was cycling. It stopped and when I started the car I got the dreaded "excessive battery drain" warning.
DVD player was used one time 3 months ago or so and is empty. No further warnings this am (after several stops). Taking it in soon for oil change so will ask. Hope it was just a one time glitch!

The DVD player continues to spin. I think there is a chance it spins less or does not spin when the car is locked. To save battery, make sure the car is locked when unused.

I'm sorry. I was not clear in my OP. I mean the DVD changer was cycling like it was trying to load multiple discs. You know the noises it makes when you load a disc, then want to load another.
I always lock my car. Have seen numerous threads about battery issues, so I have always locked my car, even though it is garaged. I am hoping it was just a one time glitch. |

Mine constantly does it. I keep forgetting to ask about it. Not sure what it's doing. I will try locking my door to see if it makes a difference.

Looking back now, I am not sure I locked the car that night. It has not happened since and I always (or so I thought) lock my car at night. Oh well

Here's a guess (but maybe an educated one).
When the battery voltage gets too low, the changer "forgets" when it has in its storage slots and/or the computer shuts off all power to things such as the changer in standby, When the power is restored, the change cycles through all the slots to determine which slots have a CD/DVD and what CD/DVD it has. For an unrelated reason, your battery voltage appears to have gotten too low, perhaps even just monetarily, and the changer, as a result, checked to see what it had loaded. |

All BMW's with nav do that, my M3 and X5 both do it. Entirely normal.

It may be common, but I'm not sure I'd call it normal. It's annoying, since most of my DVD-A discs won't start playing unless you're parked (since there's a menu screen). So, when I park the car at the end of the day, I'm listening to Linkin Park. Get in the car the next morning, pull out and I'm now listening to Grateful Dead (after I put it back in park at the top of the driveway and press play). Pretty annoying. It's like a shuffle command that I didn't request. Penguin's guess sounds pretty reasonable. Whatever it is, I hate it.
