BMW Online?
Is BMW Online available yet? Seems like it would be pretty awesome and is obviously in the firmware somewhere. If you're not sure what it is, you can see it at this link For those who do have BMW Online, is it good? Does it use your own cell phone connected through bluetooth or the one in the car? Does it work only with 2010 X5 version of idrive or is it also compatible with 2009 X5 idrive? P.S. I did a search but searching for "bmw online" brings back a blank page. |

It's been available in North America for some time. It's $199.00 per year, or thereabouts.
I declined it, given that I have an iPhone. But, I'm thinking of signing up for it the iPhone Interface is difficult to use when one has a client in their car. I was told by the BMW rep, that general e-mail will be offered soon, and most likely Internet. The site you guys are looking at is not BMW North America's site. It looks like you're on BMW's German site. To answer the other part of your question, it works on 2009 Models, I believe. It also communicates via the vehicle's built in cell phone, and does not rely upon your own person cell phone. There's no firmware update, that requires a trip to the dealer. There's some "data" that's sent via cellular networks to the car, but that's it. As for now, in the U.S. you can only use google to look up addresses and phone numbers, which can then be directed into your navigation or contact books. So, for $200 per year, it's not worth it. If they offer additional Internet capabilities, it's a good deal, for sure. Last edited by ABMW; 02-05-2010 at 03:30 PM. |

got them confused, my error.
I was told BMW online is coming, and they're rolling it out VERY soon, according to the rep who activated my 35d during my initial "SOS-Welcome Call." She told me they're already being trained to provide support. |

I think it's going to be available first on the new 7er and 5GT.

It will be for the back-seat passengers in the 7 & 5GT. And unless BMW comes up with, or teams up with, the new technology where the driver and the front passenger see 2 different images on the same front-center screen, I bet it will never be in the front screen in the U.S.

I had it on my 1 series rental in Germany. Unless they do a better job of integrating it in newer/better releases, then I don't see what the point is... Its like an iPhone without the touch screen.
