Is there any other way to close the tailgate other than the button on the hatch ?

I bet the rest of the world gets to close the hatch with the console button and the remote. I know on my other BMWs a friend of mine was able to program them so I could close all the windows and moonroof with the remote.

You can pull it down without pushing the button.

I wonder if doing that routinely is good for the mechanism?

I do not believe so, as there is a small plastic panel on the inside of trunk lid that is a manual release for the electronic mechanism in case of a failure.

And you can drop a bag of concrete off the roof onto the open tailgate to close it....

A third way.

My 2010 UK car can close it from the dash or the key-fob. BUT with the key-fob you have to keep your finger on the button which is probably pandering to the idiot safety police yet again.
