Just noticed a tear underneath the steering wheel.. what do you think

BMW will do for me.. i notice everything on my X but i didnt see this until today.i dont know how long its been there.. i had my wheel upside down and saw it. i think its from my thumb where my hand holds the steering wheel. its more of a peeling instead of a tearing. if i say something to the dealer either A) they will say wait to see if it gets worse because its not really noticable B)its up to me with no problem and C) i really like the sport wheel compared to the std and they would replace it with a difference in price.. C would be the best.. any chance? slim or nil !!

is this on the actual leather? or is it on one of the spokes on the part with the buttons?

I have that one mine too but its around where the volume controls are on the steering wheel. It's the coating that they used to give parts of the steering wheel that matte finish. It's very thin and if you like it, press it down for a few seconds to warm it up or use a lighter to heat it up a bit so that it sticks.

i just peeled mine off entirely... it kept on bubbling up and i would literately have little black pieces on the inside of my thumbs.. the plastic underneath it doesnt look too bad. it looks like the plastic found on the "P" (parking) button.

I have the same issue and I've presented it to the dealer. They said it's a common issue and that BMW has an upgraded overlay that will not peel. I'm not sure if it's a warranty fix or $$, I'm still waiting for mine. So there is a replacement for it but I'm not sure if it's covered or not.

I have the same peeling right around that area as well. Will they replace the whole steering wheel just for that peeling or no...
