19,000 miles and ready for the 3rd set of tires

I have about 8 months left on my lease and I'm trying to figure out the best way to go tire wise. This is my second set of Dunlop RFT's (20" on 214's) and I'm averaging about 10k miles per set here in FL.

I have done some searching here and saw lots of mixed reviews on the Bridgestone Dueler RFT's, but in looking it seems most people are getting better (albeit louder) mileage out of them as compared with the Dunlops (plus they're about 1/2 the price).

I have been told by BMW that I must put RFT on the vehicle for lease turn in or I will pay $250/tire (or if treadwear is below nominal depth). I'll be honest as I've had LOTS of leases and while I've always made sure to meet the tread depth requirements I have NEVER been told what tires I need to put on...Hell on my LR3 I turned it in with wheels off a Supercharged Range Rover....

Anyway, ideally I'd put on non RFT conti's, but guess I have no choice.

Has anyone else had any experiences to share?

wow. I made it 22K on my stock Dunlaps before switching to Bridge Sport RFT's (which I got 38K out of.) And that was in NY, in and out of summer/winter conditions.

Are you melting your tires at 160mph in the burning sun???

Read your lease agreement to see if the contract specifies the type of tire. Do not take their word as gospel.

I wish....combo of city and highway, had alignment checked and double checked, I've been told between the heat and high coral content of the sand used in the concrete of roads FL is very tough on tires. I'm originally from up north and have seen a dramatic difference since moving down here 15 years ago (I know compounds have changed as well but it's still shocking).

I go through the left rear and right front the fastest...the reason behind my alignment worries...but have seen similar wear on two of my friends X's as well as on my 2001 4.4 and faster tthan average wear most of my other cars....

I don't drive too hard (niether of the curves in the road here are on my daily route ) so it's mostly straight running....

I'm just hoping to put one last set of tires on before the lease ends, not two!

I'm gonna double check the lease agreement to verify, but guess I'll try the Bridgestones next.

Having just gotten my lease turn in info from BMW on my 335xi I can assure you guys it says if the car came with RFTs it HAS to have the RFTs on the vehicle at lease turn in.

In regards to X-cellent's situation, $250 per tire is a steal for 20" RFTs...

My tires are being replaced today in fact. Here's my 3rd set of tires (2nd set of Bridge Sport RFT's.) I got almost 42K out of these (a noisy 42K, but 42K.) Always have alignment done at install. Very typical wear of front and rears (rear negative camber is insane and therefore creates the same wear on my tires every time.)

I agree, but I am down to the belts and need new tires anyway, just hoping to get away with $1,300 not $2,300 in order to turn it in....that or will just buy a set of used tires to turn it in with at the end ($500 on ebay from a place not too far from here...got my assistant a set of conti's for her 3 series turn-in that were like new for $75.00!).

How much tread is left on your Dunlops? If it still meets BMW's min. tread requirement ( I think its 4/32's) take the tires off NOW for a new set of your choice, then mount the dunlops back on before lease return. Better to pay a bit more for an additional mount/balance than to potentially go thru another set of Dunlop RFT's over the next 8 months.

Tires ....

Ready for my 3rd set as well. Came with Dunlop RFT. Lasted 22k. Second set are the Michelin Latitude Tour HP. They have made it an additional 38K and a very noisy last few months.

I want to replace these with the Continental ExtremeContact DWS and guess what last weeks back order on the fronts 275/35/20 has gone from 2 days to 60-90 days.

Called local shop here and he confirmed the same thing.

Rears look like racing slicks.
