A2DP for the 2010 X5 :)

so i got annoyed that i have to use a stereo cable and plug it in everytime i got in the car to stream Pandora... I figured i'd give this thing a shot

Amazon.com: BlackBerry Remote Stereo Bluetooth Gateway for BlackBerry 8100, 8110, 8120, 8130, 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330, 8800, 8820, 8830, 9000 (Black): Electronics

it was really simple to setup and the blackberry is smart enough to send music through it and still route the calls trhough the car's bluetooth. it can be powered via the usb port in the center console; its like a perfect little something that bmw didn't add it. I highly recommend it

Try it before you recommend it. It's a good idea, hopefully it works the way you want it to.

Cool. I've tried different FM transmitters since I couldn't add aux input in my 01, so I just went a completely different route and installed a whole new stereo. A2DP isn't just limited to BB's, so I wonder if anyone w/ a BT phone that has A2DP could use it as well.

I have used iPhone 3G over A2DP in my X5 and it works like a charm. Can receive calls while streaming music and can use internet music applications (Pandora, AOL radio) as well as youtube!
The only difference is that I have an aftermarket bluetooth integration kit made by mObridge!

Couple of questions:
- I don't see any USB connector on the product image you linked. I only see the AUX connector. Does it have another cable to plug into the USB port for power?
- which Blackberry are you using? I don't see the Storm 1 (9530) listed but I am pretty sure my Storm has A2DP.
- I assume you have to "pair" the BB to the device just like you "pair" the BB to the vehicle and/or a bluetooth headset. So, when you launch Pandora, does the music automatically steam or do you have to choose settings on the BB?
- Using a "stereo cable", which cable and were you plugging into AUX or the console USB? Will the BB's USB cable (used for syncing) allow you to connect into the console usb port and send Pandora thru the vehicle's stereo? While I wouldn't use this often, it would be nice for longer drives and if I can do it with stuff I already have...

It seems for A2DP to work, the BB must simultaneously pair-connect to two different devices (vehicle AND the A2DP antenna). I'd really appreciate a more detailed description of how this works, all connections and which (if any) settings you have to change on the BB each time you want to stream Pandora thru the X5.

there's a small usb port right next to the stereo jack
i use the bb tour (9630) to my knowledge the storm had a2dp
yes you pair your phone with the remote stereo gateway
pandora has a setting that says enable bluetooth so if it detects it it'll use it... if not it won't.. its all automatic
it is smart enough to send music through the remote gateway and the phone calls from the standard car bluetooth... its connected to both at the same time

after i set it up the only thing i needed to do was to turn on pandora and it'll stream. it even does youtube... really really cool..

Thanks John,
Still a bit unclear:
- "there's a small usb port right next to the stereo jack" Do you mean in the vehicle console (I know there is one there if you have iPod/USB feature which I do), or are you saying there is a USB port on the gateway? If on gateway, are you saying you have a cable that is regular USB on both ends and plugging one end into gateway and the other end into vehicle USB (for power)? If yes, I would wonder why you would need both the USB AND the AUX plug. My original question referred to the gateway because the picture only shows the male AUX plug (not sure if it is 2.5mm or 3.5mm).

- "pandora has a setting that says enable bluetooth", I don't see that option when I hit the BB key. Perhaps I need to uninstall Pandora and reinstall to get a newer version?

- Lastly, before you bought the gateway, what "stereo cable" were you using to play the Pandora thru the vehicle? Were you using the USB cable that comes with the phone for syncing (micro USB on one end and regular USB on the other)? Or, was it a different cable (perhaps something plugging into the phone's 3.5mm jack)? Am asking this last because I imagine using it only occasionally and this might be enough for me without the gateway (especially as my BB Pandora menu doesn't offer "enable bluetooth").
Thanks again!

the gateway has USB and AUX, the USB is for power only as it has no other power source.. i plug the USB on the gateway to my ipod USB port on the car... the stereo is the standard one I think is 3.5mm its the one same one that the car uses... so straight usb -> usb stereo -> stereo and you're done..

pandora's bluetooth setting is uder options... hit bb key then hit options and you'll see enable bluetooth in there

before i bought the gateway i was just using a 3.5mm stereo male to male cable to go from the phone to the car... nothing special... the gateway is 30 bucks and its slick...

Great find! I assume you can only control music playback through the Blackberry (a2dp) phone and not through the iDrive... correct?
