Extended Warranty Question
Does it matter where you purchase a BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade? I've heard that if you buy it from a dealer other than the one you bought your car they might not give you some extras like loaners and quicker service.

The extended maintenance plan is a scam. It covers only the bare minimum maintenance BMW schedules. People get scared by the ridiculous prices BMW dealers charge for things like oil changes and brakes, and buy these plans. Just find a decent indy for service past 50k miles and you'll be fine.
The other reason BMW likes these plans is they tie the owner to the dealer- so that you find yourself coming back to the dealer after 50k miles for 'issues' only to be told it is not a 'maintenance plan item' , and is not under warranty, and is TWO TIMES more expensive than an indy would charge. It is also NOT A WARRANTY as you have in your title. |

Actually maybe neither!
Parts that are subject to wear and tear- depending on the language of the extended warranty- can be excluded. So an axle boot does not have a 'scheduled maintenance replacement' so it is not covered by maintenance...and the extended warranty might exclude rubber parts, seals, hoses... What kind of warranty do you have? A |

i have the warranties i purchased when i took delivery. best i can tell BMW Original Owner Protection Plan.
my Indie has always said the front CV joints and boots will invariably need to be replaced at about 60k miles. he is of the opinion that this should be covered under the extended warranty. |

Well, can't hurt to try!
Actually the joints should be fine as long as you change the boots before they fail and allow crap to get inside.... A PS I read the CPO warranty and it doesn't exclude boots... but it does exclude all items that might fail due to normal wear and tear. And if a boot fails due to aging rubber, then the CV joint fails- and they decide they don't cover the boot you are stuck on the joint. just call up your friendly SA and ask them a hypothetical...

pretty sure i will wear the joints before the rubber ages out. 12/07 delivery and i have 43k on the clock.
i think i will try to drop the maint plan however. i see no way that the cv joints or boots would fall under that plan. thanks. |
