Great graph.

Do you have an explanation of the "stair" pattern in your mpg data? It seems that you get a great mpg/tank then each succeeding mpg/tank gets progressively lower. Then it jumps back up. Are each of these "stairs" a long trip with variable driving conditions between the start and the end (e.g. freeway -> back country roads or flat lands -> hills, etc)?

Coincidental. The two best happened to be "down grade" tankfulls, one from Denver across Kansas to Lawrence with a tail wind, the other from Las Cruces to Yuma in no wind, where we were really watching the speed, given all the bad ju-ju about AZ county mounties . . tried to stay within 5 MPH above posted.

Well, that's a substantial amount of city driving that you're doing. Remember when you're stopped at a stoplight, the computer continues to record it as 0mpg every second, so those probably drag the average reading down a little bit. Make sure you've properly inflated the tires (when the tires are cold) and there isn't excess weight in the trunk when you're cruising around town.

Keep track of the energy control (instant mpg) gauge underneath the tachometer, it really helps. Cold weather also will increase fuel consumption noticeably, plus I usually say give it about 10k miles to realise the optimum fuel efficiency.

I noticed a difference right away when I went from 20's to 18's.

I have my 18s on for one more road trip before I go back to my 20s.

my last trip I had 1500 miles, and I averaged 74.5 MPH (there are some 80mph speed limits in utah), with skis on the rack that added pretty significantly to wind resistance, and I got 24.5 MPG for the trip.

I have another trip this weekend where it will be just me, no skis, and a bit slower, with no 75/80 speed limits, so I'm expecting 26/27+ on this trip.

as a rule of thumb I was getting as high as 40 MPGs flat going 60 MPH, and would lose just about 1 MPG per 1 MPH increase after that in my 18s.

I'm looking forward to this next trip to see if I can approach 30.

combined city/hwy has been in the neighborhood of 21 MPG.

short answer to your question... I noticed a difference right away when I went from 20's to 18's.

20's go back on in 2 weeks, so I'll see if it was all in my head after that.

I have just hit 2000 miles and my actual MPG is 29.2. The trip computer is showing 28.2.

My driving is a mix of town, A and B roads and motorways, I drive quickly but smoothly with minimal braking.

Obviously this mileage included the running in period and is in Imperial gallons.

I so envy all your 20+ mpg....I dont know why, I tried many times watching my mpg needle and still I can't get over 19mpg each tank. I dont want to go back to my stock 18's though, but maybe I should do it for a tank and see if that makes any difference (I changed to my 20's the first hour after I took delivery, never tested with the stock wheels).
