X5d rhythmic pump sound at idle?

Not the engine and a/c off, there is a sound in front of the dash like a pump circulating every second, not a click or clack, more like a hummmm. Did not hear it on my 335i or anyother vehicle.

Reproducible, now that I know what to listen for at idle. Truck has been near perfect otherwise....except that very high pitched whine using the ipod external music through the iDrive system...

Does it go away if you turn off the fan or a/c. I think I hear a similar hum. Stops when I turn off the climate control.

hello,

it is something from a auxiliary water pump....a ventil or so...that opens and closes and from there the sound

in germany the X5 owners are almost crazy abouyt it, one of the guys is trying to get it fixed at his dealer...i will let u know as soon as it is discovered what exactly could cause the anoying sound....

rumors say it could be fixed also with software measure....

I have the same issue, it seems to be in relation with the heating system (webasto).
My dealer changed a pump support last week, but it's still rumoring...

Inacceptable on a car around 70000€, even if the dealer make the best he can, it's still not working as it would on a one year and half old car. (they already changed the pano roof !!!, and some electronic stuff)

It's my 4th BMW, and maybe my last for a while because the quality is going really bad while the price raised nearly up to 20% (compared to my old e53 with nearly the same options). Even my dealer is really nice to me and do the best he can, i'm fedding up going to the garage...

I mentionned that last year
they changed the rubber on the auxiliary water pump
because it made a low regular noise against the metal body
since then, a full year, no more rumbling......

it took them one drive with me to understand and fix it

Do you have the write up with a part number? That would be great.

the dealer installed a new insulation housing/padding around the pump and that seems to have completely fixed that annoying humming sound...took them a while to figure it out tho
