Diesel Credit Extended for 2011

Just had a call from my SA that BMW is extending the 4500 Eco-Credit for 2011 X5's until 4/30 so anyone waiting for it to be announced it's official...

As a side note if you are thinking of ordering a new X5 and want to get a haggle free Costco price send me a PM and I will send you my SA information. He is the Mid-Atlantic rep for Costco sales but can place orders for anyone in the US and arrange for delivery (Highly recommend doing the Performance Center Delivery). Having bought my 10 X5 35d from him I can attest to his superb quality of service.

I'm a bit surprised that they extended it to to 2011 models right away. Had I known that, I probably would have waited... not so much to get the 2011 changes, as for the diesel they are rather minor, but I really didn't need the X5 until this Spring. I bought it when I did as I never expected the $4,500 promo, which seemingly was initiated in response to the Cash for Clunkers, would last this long. And it is somewhat rare for BMW to have incentives that large on any of their vehicles.

Makes me wonder if BMW is expecting cash problems down the road and needs all the sales they can get. They seem to be cutting down on costs rather severely lately, e.g., taking the lift cylinder out of the rear storage door, taking speakers out of the base stereo system, etc. And I noticed this year BMW did not, for the first time in many years, participate in the Chicago Motorcycle expo, having no representation at all in the show. Seems like a lot of short-term actions at the cost of long-term sales.

OT...not a Costco member, (as we "mooch" here in FL via a neighbor and have no
Costco within 1 1/2 hrs of our NC home), but what is a haggle free "Costco quote"?
Is it only on BMW, or other car brands, and I assume one has to be a member?
Thanks, mD

No you can get Costco pricing for most of the major car manufactures. I don't think it is a set price for all the manufactures or for the matter it depends on the model as well I think.

For me it worked out great... I was doing my car shopping and had decided on the X5 and when I started to just inquire on pricing was asked by my SA if I was a Costco member (I think I had mentioned how much above invoice could he do and he happened to be the Costco rep for the Mid-Atlantic). When I told him yes was given a price of 800 over invoice. That worked out perfect for me since in my research I saw people were paying 500-1200 over invoice here and elsewhere and that is what I was looking for and got it with out any of that haggling bs.

I know some people love the art of haggling and I do enjoy it as well for some things. Last time I picked up a new TV had the sales guy pay for the tax or another time got some rear speakers with my new surround sound set up. The whole back and forth crap at the dealerships with let me talk to my manager though is a little overboard imo...

Overall it just made for a great buying experience without the stress...Highly recommend it.. Very few dealers participate and luckily one of the local ones for me did but especially given you can do a Performance Center delivery or a European Delivery if your getting a different model really doesn't matter if it is your local dealer...

My pleasure mD.. Yeah I didn't know what the whole program entailed until I took part... I think it's good more people realize they can use it when shopping for there new car..

I do believe they do allow leasing with it as well...

Penguin yeah I was a bit surprised as well that they extended it especially with a new model year. Maybe they just have an overstock of diesel engines
Remember also that buying last year that you can take advantage of the sales tax deduction as well which I don't think has/will be extended this year.. I know I am looking forward to my refund check in the next couple weeks..

For me I wouldn't have been able to get Deep Green/Saddle since I think they are doing away with both this model year... I think the adaptive cruise control might have been nice to have as well but no regrets I needed the car and have loved driving it these past months....
