Hello + 214's in Canada
This is my first post and as of today I own my first BMW. It happens to be a 2008 X5 4.8i. I'm pretty stoked on it to say the least, perhaps because it set me back a juicy amount. I've owned GMC Denali's, a Nissan pathfinder, and a Honda (prelude) and this is by far the nicest vehicle of them all. Also the most expensive! Anyways, I have a few questions regarding the truck and hopefully you guys can help. 1) I'm looking for a set of 214 20" Y-Spokes for the beast and have found a set for $2500 Canadian. They are basically new and I am not sure but cannot imagine that the price includes tires. Is this a good deal? I can't find a price anywhere on the BMW Canada site. 2) I purchased this truck used from the dealership and therefore it is BMW certified. If I lower the truck using H&R springs do I void any portion of the warranty? Will the dealerships do it for me at service? Of course I'll ask when I pick it up but thought you guys might know as that won't be for a week. Thanks guys for any help, and man am I stoked on this truck. A sentiment I'm sure everyone here shares. |

The phrase 'voiding warranty' is greatly overused.
What happens when you modify a vehicle is that if you have a subsequent failure that is caused by or accelerated by your modification, as judged by your dealer, then the repair isn't likely to be covered. It can depend a lot how good a relationship you have with your dealer service advisor. What can be impacted by lowering the vehicle? Any problems involving the suspension, steering system, tire wear, or alignment issues could be up for debate. Obviously, the new parts you install won't be covered (but they should be covered by the shop that sold them to you). The rest of the vehicle won't be impacted. Will your dealer install the lowering kit? Unlikely in my opinion, but you can always ask.

20" Y spoke
My friend is looking for a set of 214. Seems like an OK price. Let me know if you don't buy them.
Thanks

Are they OEM wheels? If so then it does not include tires. If they're replica, they better include tires.

Love the truck above. The 215's are the rim I really want, but I don't feel like dropping a smooth 6500+ to get a set. I might come around as it is between them and the 214's.
I checked last night and the 214's do come with tires and are OEM. They are directly from the dealership and the deal is part of the package I worked out when I purchased the truck. Unfortunately, they are not brand new and will be slightly used (less than 300km) but the dealership has them because of a long story that happened with the previous owner. Even more unfortunate is the fact that they can only sell them if they find them in their facility. That is the condition of my purchase. I imagine they don't call me when they do find them and sell them for full price to someone else, but my bill of sale/contract has it in writing. - Does this even make sense? ANyways thanks guys for the welcome. The rims either ferric grey or powder coated some sort of grey + H&R springs + Spacers will the first additions. Then I'm looking at the Hamann kit and perhaps the Hartge exhaust. With BMW's, do I risk ricing it out if I don't purchase all of the same brand name aftermarket components for the truck or does mixing and matching fly? |

Welcome aboard!
As for the 214's, I think that's a good price.

Congrats, you are on the road to becoming a BMW nut
Like in prior posts, that is a good price for 214s depending on condition, tire wear etc.

That's a great price ..I was going to be charged around $5k Can to swap my new 18's before delivery to 19's (211's I think, the ones that come standard on 4.8) ... suffice to say I didnt take up the 'offer' ... 20's would have been more like $8k for me ..so sounds like a fantastic deal ... go for it my friend..and good luck with the mods ... mod like the wind ..life is short ...
