On my THIRD X5 (2004, 2007, and now 2010).
A few observations:
Overall, iDrive is nicer, but... They screwed up the NAV, my 2007 showed street names that are not in my new unit. The font of the street names got smaller and have less contrast (night mode helps, but the older one was better). Additionally, the position pane on the right now rarely shows the city because it insists on putting the city after the street name, and if the street name wraps, the city falls off the right of the screen. I wish that you could turn off the long/lat/alt and get the city back.
iPod Integration is almost useless with an iPhone. It almost always insists on playing iPod content, and it's very difficult to use App audio (like Pandora). If you set the iPod interface to AUX, the phone refuses to charge. Luckily I can use my old Griffin charger/audio line in.
The lift gate is awesome. My 2007 missed it by a few weeks of production.
My new one's SPORT package dropped out the Adaptive Drive option that the 2007 SPORT package included. Kinda cheesy. They include it now with the M package or allow you to buy it separately, but I was not made aware that they changed the package content. I should have checked. In any case, they did change the suspension and transmission tuning a bit, and I am happy with the driving experience.
Better internal lighting - in the 2007, the overhead light switches were not illuminated. They were impossible to find. This one's better.
Now, I have Sat Radio. Why can't the song info show in the little display on the map? FM song info comes up, but the SAT doesn't.
In any case, still love the car.
