The auto headlights switch position will activate the daytime running lights if you selected this feature in your idrive.

DRL's are on regardless of light switch position in "A" or "0" if set to on in i-drive...

Only your DRL's should come on during the day if set in i-drive when it is not dark enough for the light sensor to switch on headlights. Do the DRL's come on when you set the headlight switch to "0" i.e.non auto mode and the DRL option is on in i-drive?

Due to the changing sun angles and winter time (in the Northern Hemisphere), it's not unusual for the headlights to stay on well through the morning and turn on early in the afternoon.

It seems like an issue. I was fine for a couple of days and now I discovered something along with the headlights (not Daylight lamps) staying on during day time. During night if I am still on Auto mode, one of the fog light is on while the other one is off...looks like the X5 is winking that's what a guy told me outside 7-11 ) will keep you guys posted on how my first service experience goes

with adaptive lights your fogs turn on when the wheel is truned in that direction and you are traveling below 40mph (IIRC). The fact the headlights are staying on is odd.

If I leave from the garage the lights come on, even when I am parked in the shadow of an overpass the lights come on. I just turn them off.

The one fog light on the other off is a feature of your "cornering lights". The light turns on to illuminate the side of the street that you are turning. I think it goes on when you are driving less than 45 mph and use your turn signal while in Auto or if you start turning the wheel going into a sharp turn at less than 45 mph. I am sure someone else will have a clearer explanation or the manual clarifies much better. Either way it is a feature of your X5 and not anything to be alarmed about. Try it again and you will see what I mean. The fog light that was on was the same direction your wheels were pointing. |

I noticed this recently too in my 2010 X5. On auto, the headlights are always on despite the weather/lighting conditions. Is that the norm?
