iDrive: same in 2010 X5 & 2010 7 series?

I'm borrowing my dads 2010 750 this week. Wanted to see how much better the idrive is compared to my 2008 M5.

Besides the screen size, would the idrive in an X5 be the same?

2011 X5 has newer iDrive in case you don't realize that 2011 X5 is out already.

2010 X5 has same idrive as 2010 7-series. Minor differences due to some system limitations.

I know but it's still technically the same generation that was introduced in the 2009 7 series.

Yes, the "new" iDrive appeared in the X5 starting in the 2010 model year.

I think you will probably like the new idrive. I'm coming from two vehicles with the previous version I drive. It takes a little getting used to that most things will be moving the mouse either left, right or rotating and there being very little forward and backward movements. The main menu is quite different as well but, once you get used to it it's really nice.

In the 7-series the screen size is 10.2 inches rather than 8.8 in the X5. In the 7, the user manual is available from i-Drive.

Man, I like that. You would think they could do these things in the X5. Too bad they didn't.
