Is that is a car, or just when you are walking?
Seriously though, car year, model, mileage, any pertinent maintenance, etc, etc, only slowing down? Only speeding up? anything in reverse?.....would be MOST helpful... |

2001 x5, 4.4 everythings immaculate apart from the loud clunk, now wen braking, accelerating, and turning left, think it might be the cv joint?

I'd look at the suspension where it mounts to the car, could be loose and shifting fore and aft.
Can you jack the car up and wiggle things? Really push on the wheel and see if you can get anything to move.... |

Any loud clunk in the suspension system is something to take seriously. You don't want any type of suspension/steering failure at speed (e.g. cornering). Take it to an indy shop for a closer look on a lift. Don't mess around with this.

I'll take a look when I get a chance. Thanks for your advice. Hopefully it's not too expensive!

P.s I had it on a ramp yeserday and nothing seemed to be loose at all, that's why I'm wondering about a cv joint?

if you felt lose parts by hands underneath, you'd have continuous clatter all the time. IMO Suspension noises are a pita. Have you looked at the thrust arm bushings? usually these show up as judder under braking...so not really a match for your symptoms GL A |
