Try Mainline BMW right off of city line ave. They are a very small dealer but the area is very affluent and they treat the customers accordingly. I went in and told them about the peeling steering wheel and they took care of it no problem. I didnt purchase the car there but they treat everyone like their own customers, hope this helps... |

Just had a great experience at my dealer in the Chicago area - took in my 2008 X5 because I noticed peeling on both sides of the steering wheel trim as well as the console, and 2 cracks in the wood on the console. They called today and said everything was replaced and ready to go.

Interesting update - I picked up my 2008 X5 today from the dealer. I had several pieces of peeling trim replaced, including the console area around the idrive and both sides of the steering wheel.
The results look great, but I'd like to report that it looks like BMW FINALLY figured out that they had a problem. All of the peeling trim pieces that they replaced seem to have a much less "rubbery" feeling - almost like they are not coated with the same coating. It looks and feels different, but just as nice. I'm very hopeful that I won't see any peeling. |

I had my steering trim replaced under warranty but am now out of it to repair the door pull. I found the part online at Tischer. Anyone know how the old one come off?? Just pop it off with trim removal tool, or does it require removing the whole door panel. Also, when ordering it they give two options. One w/ auto dim and one without it. Any idea what that means?? the auto dim mirror? Any help appreciated.
