e70 undercarriage rattle - driveshaft, sway bars, or gearbox?

I remember seeing a thread on here a while back about a dented diveshaft shield causing undercarriage rattle. then i read on a SIB that there was a loose cable in the gearbox causing this.

anyone have any other potential causes? the first time i took i in they replaced the end links on my sway bars, but claimed they werent sure that would fix it - and it didnt!

i've found workarounds for other e70 annoyances, but the rattle is "driving me nuts".

I think there is an SIB on the sticky at the top of the threads about the heatshield also.

really? can you give me the # of the SIB?

i went through all of them and only noticed a loose cable in the gearbox SIB.

i was thinking, could it also be cracked/broken motor mounts? my wife's camry had this problem, and the symptoms were the same. the fix eliminated the rattle.

???

dealer has tried to fix 3 times

and no luck. anyone have any clues? they don't really seem to have a clue.

can i take this to an independent bmw repair shop without voiding my 4 year warranty? i feel bad having to do it, but i just don't think the techs at my local (and only) bmw dealer know how to fix it. they are baffled.

I think the rattle is coming from the C pillar on the passenger side (right side as you are seated in car). Mine has developed an irritating rattle and I think that is the source - right about where the shoulder belt goes into its housing.

I bought the sea tbelt holder thinking it was the seat belt buckle hitting against the pillar... nope that wasn't it. The rattle is somewhere in there, very annoying.

I have a similar rattle that seems to come from behind the backseat on driver side. Suspect it is the cargo cover assembly or else something in the c-pillar. try having someone else drive while you are in the back so you can identify.

Does it just rattle when you are turning? I have noticed this recently whenever I am turning right especially through parking garages. I switched my exhaust tips out, and figured that was it so I didnt want to say anything at the dealer.
