'11 x5 without auto/power tailgate
1) Does the button on the key fob still open up the tailgate or does it have to be done manually. 2) Without power tailgate, is there any tailgate height open adjustment in i-Drive? I still don't want it to hit my garage door when I open it. 3) When I open the tailgate, does it go up? Or does it just click open (like a trunk would), and I have to pull it up? 4) If it has to be manually pulled up, can I stop the motion anywhere in between or does it either all the way up or all the way down. Thanks. |

my assumption is that all new x5's come with auto tail gates.. (i might be wrong)
but theres a button you press to close the tail gate, if you press this at anytime, the tailgate will stop. also within the idrive system there is a setting to set the maximum height of opening. I just wish the remote on the key had the feature to stop to tail gate..i get paranoid when parking in tight areas and need to open the boot and you dont have enough room/time to press the button on the boot.. |

I don't think it comes standard on any x5's actually.
Seems that on 35d, it's part of Premium Package on 35i Premium & Sports, it's part of Convenience Package on 50i, it's part of Premium Package on 35i Standard, I don't even think it's available from what I can see. |

auto tail gate
In 07 there was no auto tailgate. The fob just would unlock it. You then open in manually. There will be no height adjuster as after all you are lifting it and it will not go up by itself. It was not countered balanced as much as some trunks that fly up.
My new 35D does have one and I like them. They run off an actuator and not a piston which is why you can adjust the height, |

Not sure if anyone cares but I can now answer my own questions now that I've taken delivery:
1) Does the button on the key fob still open up the tailgate or does it have to be done manually. Yes, still opens (just pops open). 2) Without power tailgate, is there any tailgate height open adjustment in i-Drive? I still don't want it to hit my garage door when I open it. Nope, goes all the way up. 3) When I open the tailgate, does it go up? Or does it just click open (like a trunk would), and I have to pull it up? Clicks open like a trunk and does not go up (have to pull it manually). 4) If it has to be manually pulled up, can I stop the motion anywhere in between or does it either all the way up or all the way down. No in-between stops, you can obviously hold in in the middle but if you let go it will continue upward. |

even when the tailgate is all the way up it doesn't hit my garage door up top, have worried but have watched it stop short also. This is the highest setting in the idrive. Don't know if manual can go higher.
