Syndicate is on a distinguished road
1 week of ownership, X5 in the shop for service

So after one week, the car developed a noise when I turn left. It seems to be coming from the steering wheel/column area. I've done a few searches and found that people have replaced some components of the steering wheel to alleviate the problem.

What I want to verify is that people with 2010/2011 models are experiencing this issue also. When I took it to the dealer, the service guy claimed that the noise was coming from my seat. He then proceeded to spaz out in the driver's chair until it did make a noise. I explained a dozen times that it only happened when turning left, the noise was from the steering area, and with a subtle turn (not jumping up and down in the seat) the noise appeared.

Any suggestions?

The second thing, which I'll provide more info when it becomes available, is activating the full Voice Control option (620). They are confirming whether it is a software or hardware change. If it is is hardware, I told them to install the unit which will be in the Sept. production vehicles with the Office option, and the album art cover, text messages, etc. I don't think it can be retrofitted, but if so, I'll be sure to let you all know.

Cheers,

After he spaz's out just tell him to sit in the passenger seat, take him for a drive, turn left a few times and show him that the noise still exists. That service guy kinda sounds like a loon, might want to try a different dealer if you have an option.

Let us know what you find out about the September updates - really hoping this can be done via software update as well....!

Initially, he was in the passenger side while I showed him the noise. Then he drove it, and that's when he claimed it was the seat. I've known him for 3 years, cause he worked on the M3. He's a great mechanic, but for some reason, he just wasn't getting it that day.

To clarify on voice command, the 620 option may be software, or may be hardware. The option for Office, cover flow, text messages, etc. is definitely hardware.
