What a difference some tires make...............

We had the OEM Dunlop Sport Crap runflats on our 2007 4.8i and the drivers side rear developed either a flat spot or a shifted band or something because it developed a sound that sounded like it was saying wop, wop, wop every time that it made a revolution. It didn't matter if it was slow speed, high speed either. It just did it all of the time. Talk about a tire that wears QUICKLY!

I got tired of hearing it and started researching new tires and finally decided on some Continental Extreme DWS's. I was ready to order them and found out that the fronts are on national back order. I called around to a few places and the last call that I made was to Discount Tire and upon talking to Mike there, he said that he'd call a few places and see what he could do (this was on WEdnesday).
Low and behold, an hour later, he called me back saying that he found a pair in Alabama and they'd be here on Monday.....Fast forward to today, when at @2:19 pm, I got a call telling me that they all came in. Needless to say, that I was gone to the shop to get some new kicks!

Now, onto the review. These tires are AWESOME! Less road noise, lighter than the runflats (feels llike it's a little peppier because of less unsprung weight. Maybe it's my imagination, but I don't care because it feels peppier ). The downside is there is no spare, but everything has a tradeoff.

He told me that he thinks that I got the last pair in the USA. I often say that timing is everythinng and in this case it was true! I'm just glad that it worked out in my favor today!

Sorry to ramble, but I'm pretty excited to have our X5 running/sounding like it should!

Please have a Great Night!

Well, sitting here, babysitting the kids. I think this calls for celebration! I just opened a bottle of beer. Cheers! This isn't helping my diet

Yea, I replaced the run flats with the conti DWS as well. I overall like them but I do find them a bit lacking when it comes to cornering. The run flats were better in that regard ... But everything is a trade off.

You were lucky to get a set.

I wish they made them in my e53 staggered 19 inch size. I would be all over them as they are rated really well everywhere I have seen. I have them on my e36 and love them so far.

I think that the runflats were a bit better cornering because of the stiffer sidewall. Personally, I'll take the smoother, quieter ride and the wear rating of them over the little bit of handling advantage that they give, but that's just me!

Thanks for the reply and the review!

I agree that I was Very Lucky to get a set!

I like them so far, but it's only been two days. We'll see how they work out!
Thanks for the reply!

If your old tires are making that wopwopwopwop sound, then methinks they were either down to the wear bars or the alignment is off. Since you say it was only the driver's rear making that sound, then I am leaning towards alignment.
