Voice Command Upgrade
Hey all,
So currently the car has voice command for telephone only. I went to the dealer to ask about upgrading to the full voice command (option 620, i think.) They had never done this so consulted with BMW in Munich. It turns out that it is a software change. They said they will charge $1000.00 to do the software. That seems pretty outrageous considering the option is only about $300 when ordering the car. Has anyone here done this before, and could you state how much you paid? Cheers, |

Will you really use it?
Find a different dealer, or drive to munich. |

Yeah, I think I would use it. Easy to control nav, menus, and audio.
I'm talking about upgrading option 644, which is just for controlling the telephone, to the option where you can control everything by voice. Considering that all the hardware is already present, $1000 seemed a bit steep for a software change. |

Taking delivery of new LCI 3.0D Innovations on Monday, does not have voice command hoping that I won't miss it as current X has it. New buttons on iDrive should make things easier. Dealer did look into having voice added to this car as I did not want to wait for a factory order and they advised that BMW Australia had looked into doing a software upgrade but BMW Australia say it is not possible. Don't know if there would be any difference between different countries being able to do software upgrades. If it was possible it would have cost A$700.
Keep us posted if you go ahead and if it works David

been various discussions on this topic before, and with the Pre-LCI vehicles it was apparently a bit more long winded and not just software. You need a new I drive controller and also another mike apparently + plus a load of cabling needs changed.

Then after all that you'll likely end up using the controller more than the voice commands.
I have it on both X's. It's nice but not without it's issues. It seems to have most of it's problems at hiway speeds; likely because of noise from the run flats. Really not horrible though, foe the most part it works. Where I find I use it the most is in traffic and city driving. It's well worth having in those conditions. |

This is interesting. I didn't know it existed.

No, I haven't done anything yet. For that price, I decided to wait for the new unit with messages, coverflow for music, etc. Once this is available, I'll just change the entire unit.
Cheers, |
