I have it on both my 10 X5M and X5 M Sport.

It's saved my cars from impact damage no question. However, my experience is that bugs leave residue I've learned that somehow it eventually seems to wash or wear off though.

My biggest complaint though is that the stuff scratches badly if you're not really careful when cleaning or drying it. If it gets water spotted even a little it's toast.

I'd say I'm 90% satisfied with the product; 100% with the installation.

Do you have the Venture Shield?

I think 3M used to have a different product 3 years ago - it was something called Clearbra and from what I understand was a bit heavier than the VentureShield. That's what I had put on my Acura, and it was bulletproof. I left bugs on it for weeks and they came right off. Never got scratched, never yellowed, invisible for the 2 years I had it (except for the edge). I've read complaints that it showed orange peel, but it was a silver car and I could never tell.

Not sure if they still make it, or if the VentureShield has improved at all - it appears 3M bought VentureShield a while back, and has been in the process of merging the two products. That might explain some of the poor results some people have seen.

I've got it on mine - it's in my sig pic (tint too - barely legal...). The edge is visible in the right lighting but the protection is good. +1 about scratching too - be careful when rubbing/buffing the plastic.

I've had the clear bra on two of my previous cars. One, I installed myself. The other, I had it professionally done. It definitely helps with paint chips for some cars. However, I found that the film can scuff or get scratched. And, once it's damaged, it's permanent.

On my current car and previous car, I didn't bother getting it installed. And, I found that even without a clear bra, there weren't really any paint chips. About ten years ago when auto manufacturers first converted from lead-based paints to water-based paints (due to new EPA laws, I believe), there were major issues with paint chipping. However, I think it's gotten a lot better.

So, I don't think it's totally necessary anymore.
