Help me remove a rattle

Ok, I have detected a rattle on Xena and traced it down to the part circled below.


Does anyone know how to remove the offending part so I can either repair it or replace it. The rattle is due to the fact that the vanes within the vent are loose. Compared it to the one on the other side and it does not have the same problem. Xena is now out of warranty so I'd prefer to do this myself if I can!

Any help gratefully accepted!!

Dude, do you really need our HELP!... If I were you, I may ask how to open the vent especially when I know the rattle culprit. I agree with you vanes do get loose and I feel its aint that hard to find a way to open vents ... I have never tried it before, from look of things they dont need bolts/nuts I guess they need a flat screw driver to tap them off... check the vanes... then push cover back. So I think!

Caution: Do it calmly! (Else you will create a hole that you wont be able to put pieces of vanes back!).... Goodluck.

you misunderstand.....I want to remove the whole vent unit as it is the interior siting of the vanes that has the problem. It looks to me like a manufacturing issue on the original vent as the carrier for the vanes inside the casing that is causing the rattle not the actual vanes itself. Removing the vanes themselves will not have any effect on the rattle.

Anyway - I have now solved problem. You need to prise away the silver trim part from the bottom of the vent first. There is a Torx T25 screw behind that which holds the vent in place. Remove that and it pulls away. My vent was not clicked together properly hence the rattle. Had I tracked it down earlier I could've got it done under warranty, but these rattles can take a long time to locate! This one has been annoying me for a very long time!

Hi, i have a similar problem, but in my case i hear noise from both ends. can you explain if you only get the noise when you go over uneven roads? i think my whole dash rattles

Yes, I replaced the whole vent (cost about 20 quid) and took five mins to change once I'd worked it out.
