WeissLicht LED license plate housing install on 35i

Tonight I installed a set of WeissLicht Xenon Error-Free LED license plate housings on my 35i. The install was super easy and they fit perfectly. Definitely a lot brighter than OEM. I'll probably look into tinting them to cut down the brightness.

One LED installed:

Both LEDs installed:

why change the bulbs to LED and then tint them to not be bright? I am confused why people want super bright license plate lights anyway?

Horrible.

Just MO.

Form follows function- make the driving lights brighter to let you drive faster, or see better, but any lighting change for what other people see has no 'function', in terms of improving the performance of the car.

Law Enforcement may love you, but that isn't part of why I mod cars.

Epacy is an unknown quantity at this point
Yeah, too overly bright. I wish these manufactures would realize the license plate lights don't need to look like Lo-pan's mouth opening up. The OEM led license plate lights on my M3 are perfect. Pure white and muted. Unfortunately, the housing isn't the same.

Better camera visibility at night?

Hey, has this made a difference in using the reverse camera at night? It's about the only reason I could imagine for wanting these to be really bright, but for some it might be the right reason..

Good point, but then you'd want the reverse lamps to be upgraded, not the plate light...

Also a good point. I'm not familiar with what options exist (yet), so I'm not really in a good position to compare the merits of one approach vs. the other.

I won't have my X5 for another two or three weeks yet, perhaps brighter lighting isn't even needed. I agree with other folks though that just for looks alone, I'd not be interested in having super-bright plate illumination.
