New X5 35d on order, had a question tho...

My order included the Sport Activity Package, but I specifically did not include the Adaptive Drive option (wife's car and I have an E90 M3 to fit the bill with regards to my driving enjoyment). Under the web configurator, the SA package deleted the sports suspension but made no mention of adding back in the AD feature. This was always confusing to me, if the sport suspension is being deleted and you don't select Adaptive Drive, what exactly is replacing it?

However, when I logged on to track my build, I saw this...(it should be noted that my option list and signed off pricing does NOT include AD)

Sport Activity Package
  • Sport Package
  • Anthracite headliner
  • Sports leather steering wheel
  • Sport Suspension delete
  • Adaptive Drive
  • Sport seats
  • Multi-contour seats
  • Shadowline exterior trim
Did my SA simply tick the wrong box when they selected the package and sub-options within?

In prior years the Sport Package included a Sport Suspension, which was by default the Adaptive Suspension...in other words the "suspension included in the sport package" was really "Adaptive Suspension".

In order to reconfigure the BMW ordering system when they changed the package content in 2010, they deleted the adaptive drive from the package, and did this by a "sport suspension delete". This is not 'selectable' or 'tickable' by the SA... this is the standard 2010, 2011 Sport Activity Package order.

thanks for the info! so, if the Adaptive Drive is showing up in my list of selected options on the Track Your BMW link, does that mean I'm getting it? It shows up the same as my 20" wheels, active ventilated seats, tech, prem, etc, etc

[rant on]

There are hundreds if not thousands of posts here about "why is the on line BMW website not showing my order right"... each thread then attracts 10 people that say "mine didn't either"... and then finally someone 'splains it.

[rant off]

But you probably haven't seen those, so let me reassure you that the BMW on-line system is prone to have errors, AND the dealer often times has an 'unsold' slot, for which he has create a 'lot order'...when you buy a car, he will go in and change the existing order. This takes a while. Don't freak.

If you want the best info, you will skip the website, skip the 800 number, and just tell the CA to email you the pdf print of the 'dealerspeed.net order page'.

There is something wrong with your list that suggests to me that the list has not been updated to reflect the options you selected.

How could you be getting both sports seats and multi-contour seats? If I remember correctly, the selection of multi-contour seats deletes the sports seats. The list should be showing only one type of seat.

No freak outs going on here, in the back of my mind I had the secret hope that I was getting a nice, expensive option thrown into the deal.

Alas, this not the first BMW I've ordered and I did give it a bit of time before the order entry kinks were supposed to be worked out (ie when it first showed up the color, options, etc were all wrong), but they did, miraculously correct themselves once the order got logged. Or so I thought.

With the sport seat vs multi-contour pointer below (good catch, I obviously missed that one!), I am starting to think it is just some sort of file dump from the configuration software that the dealer uses to enter the orders and it just regurgitates the basic lines of text from the main options selected. Sub-options must not get selected or even removed from within those text "boxes", hence why I have sport suspension delete and Adaptive Drive, as well as both sport seats and multi-contour.

Was just slightly wishful thinking that I might be getting AD with the SA package. No such luck from the looks of it! Crisis averted today, but tomorrow is a brand new day...Cheers

Actually it sounds like you are getting Adaptive Drive (unless they simply deleted the "optional" part to the adaptive drive description within the Sport Activity description.

Adaptive Drive is pricey but seems worth it. It provides a nice ride in Normal yet a sportier feel in Sport.

If it was my DD I would probably opt for it, as I have EDC in my E90 M3 and use it quite regularly. Unfortunately, my wife probably won't ever push the buttons to make any of those types of adjustments, so value lost and thusly, I skipped that option in order to keep some cash in hand to add an aftermarket in-headrest rear entertainment system (couldn't get my head around the factory installed system and didn't like how they integrated into the vehicle).

It won't ride as nice, but I will get to enjoy the ride almost as much with entertained little ones in the second and third rows!

Better double-chk with your CA to make sure AD is not on the options list before car's status changes to "Scheduled for production". Too late by then

Has someone come up with a system for this and the active head restraints (I type not having done a recent search..) because last i heard the only system was more for the back of the seat like in the 5 series GT.....curious for my next round (lease is up in April)...
