2010 35d: First scheduled service/maintenance/oil change
Over at edmunds.com, there are lists of tsbs and recalls (attached.) I was surprised there was nothing on the battery discharge issue. I have not run into any of them but was wondering if anyone would recommend that I attach these to the service order? Thanks in advance. Also, how to ensure/verify the DEF system is flushed and refilled? |

1. TSBs and SIBs are not 'actionable'. I would NEVER include them with any work order UNLESS I had issues/symptoms that matched those describe in the TSB/SIB... often it is better to start with just a straight complaint with your symptoms, see how they do- maybe ask them to "evaluate TSB xyz".
2. Any recall must be done and is linked to your VIN. Even if you bring in a recall, if BMW doesnt list it for your car it isn't getting done! 3. DEF, just make sure the work order you get back lists 6.5 gallons of DEF. I'd waiting until I got the paperwork back...if you say "that paperwork had better list 6.5 gal" then maybe it will and the DEF fill still might not be right.... just sayin' Did you do an oil service yet, or is this the first... ![]() A |

Thanks Ard. This is the first time! I went back and forth on this. Finally, I called the dealer to book an appointment to do one. I spoke to a service adviser (who has been helpful in the past) and he discouraged me! Was he right or is there a huge conspiracy going on to get these cars into major repair a few years down the road??

Why you would TRUST an SA as knowing anything technical about automotive engineering is questionable as well. They really know very little, and have the same biases as any one member here on the board. n=1 so to speak, but not a definitive answer by any stretch. I have no doubt this same SA will tell you the transmission has lifetime fluid, then when pressed will say "100k"... then when you bring it in at 100k, he will say "you shouldn't mess with it, bad things happen when you change the fluid on high mile trannies". Chance of you owning the car at 150-200k? That's where this kind of maintenance comes home to roost, so to speak. My 2 cents A |
