Today is the 6th day my x5 is in the shop

I dropped off my 2008 x5 last Wednesday morning to get a couple of things checked out
  • Lunging in gears 1-2
  • Replace driver-side wiper
  • Investigate rear gate/hatch creaking/rattle
I received a call last thursday day the first two were done and they are waiting on a few parts to come in to fix the rear hatch noise issue. My SA didn't call me yesterday after I left him three messages and still no response today (going on the 6th day). Should I be worried?

Is it too much to have an SA call me back to give me an update on the truck?

Edwin

Does your SA work on Monday? Mine doesn't work every day of the week (the service center is open 6 days), so maybe you were trying to call on his day off. So yeah, if it is his day off it would be too much to ask to give you an update.

I doubt they shipped the needed parts overnight, so if they ordered them on Thursday from SC, they probably wouldn't have shipped until Friday, so I'm guessing your parts won't show up until today at the soonest.

Scott,

Good point. I called yesterday and asked the service receptionist if he was in the office and she said yes. I know he doesn't work saturdays so I'm guessing that's his day off.

Hope to hear back from him today... just want my truck back!

Edwin

"Done" can mean a multitude of things in BMW SA speak.... it can mean 'yeah, we verified the complaint, fixed the problem and confirmed it is gone"

or it can mean "no problem found, complain closed"

or it can mean "well we just reprogrammed it and hope it fixes it"

Ard,

Well, I can only go by what he told me and whether it is truly fixed or not remains to be seen He said the lunging issues were gone after they reset the ECU (or some type of computer). I'll know if it really is gone when I get it back.

I call all my SUV trucks... maybe I should have said SAV then

good luck.. btw, my SA has someone else covering for his return calls when he's out of the office. Either way you should get a proper message on his "machine" at the least.

As good as he is with that, it seems it's really tough to reach him instead of the machine the 1st time. Busy fellows apparently.

One would think that the SA would have returned your call by the second day.

When my X5 was in getting the sunroof fixed, my SA was prompt to return calls over the almost 7 weeks the car was in waiting for parts at various times. (Parts on a Viking ship crossing the Atlantic from the OEM mfg) The week he was gone on vacation, another SA filled in without any issues.

Just got the X5 back today matter of fact. Now I can start my 2nd week of actual ownership with the X5 in my possession.

Good luck, I kinda know how it feels.

Thanks for the info fellas. I did finally receive an email back from my SA and they had to order a part from Germany that will hopefully fix the rattling noise with no ETA. I picked up the x5 yesterday and with a nice surprise at my front door

Wheels finally arrived

The rear hatch area rattle is common, in fact I had rattles that were quite bad. An apprentice at the dealership was able to fix them onece and for all after a road test with me and keeping the car for a few hours. If you search this post, his findings are on here. Good luck with yours.

I did see your post and showed it to the SA. Still didn't fix it unfortunately. Glad you got yours figured out though
