it's considered normal operation for this vehicle. Just use the AUTO feature, leave it on soft and your desired temperature. You'll see the AC light on but it will only activate the AC compressor if it needs to. This will keep the odor from coming out as well. Or you can just turn the fan off everytime you start the car.
